The Royal Castle

The Royal Castle is a definite must-see for any visitor to Warsaw. Originally, the castle was built as the seat of Mazovian Dukes, and later the base for the authorities of the First Polish Republic (from the 16th century onwards). It was destroyed in the mid-17th century during Poland's war with Sweden, bombed in September 1939, during the first days of World War II, and blown up by German troops in September 1944. The castle was rebuilt in the 1970s from social funds and reopened to visitors in 1984. Today, the Castle, along with the Royal Route and Wilanów, is a favourite of visitors interested in the Polish royal history. Together with the Old Town, it is listed as one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Are you visiting Warsaw on your own? As part of a school trip? Are you here with a group of friends? You mustn't visit Warsaw and miss the Royal Castle - the symbol of the Polish capital.
