The history of the Palace on the Island dates back to the 18th century, when count Stanislaw Herakliusz Lubomirski, one of the greatest politicians and philosophers of that time, ordered the construction of a bathhouse, intended as a place of recreation and leisure. In 1764, Stanisław August Poniatowski purchased the bathhouse together with Ujazdow, where his summer royal residence, preserved to this day, was built.
The Palace on the Island and the Old Orangery are the main sights of Łazienki Park, visited each year by tens of thousands of tourists from throughout the world!
